The ring was designed in 1994 by
Tamra J Mottl as the product of her senior thesis : to successfully design and distribute a class ring "for RISD, by RISD" for the 1994 graduating class. Now patent protected and officially licensed by RISD, the ring is currently available to all past and present RISDOIDS. Recently, a scholarship has been established from the ring's licensing fee to benefit the industrious merits of a graduating senior.
